Our mission is to ensure that the history of Smithtown Township and our Long Island heritage is preserved and interpreted for the education and enjoyment of current and future generations.
Our mission is carried out through collection, conservation, living history events, and community engagement. We actively promote the importance of history and preservation, and maintain six houses and eight outbuildings at three locations: the Obadiah Smith House, the Caleb Smith II House, and the twenty-acre Village of the Branch Historic District Site.
We depend upon a dedicated group of volunteers to assist the professional staff in managing special events and programs. There are a wide range of opportunities for volunteers at the Society including helping with fundraising and cultural events, assisting in office duties or children’s programs, tending to tasks on our grounds, or caring for our animals.
