  • Life on the Farm

    Learn about what life was like growing up on a farm by spending time at the Franklin Arthur farmhouse.

    Ages: 6 - 9: Week 8
    Ages: 9 - 12: Week 5
  • Colonial Life

    Without modern conveniences how did people live in the Colonial period?  Catch a glimpse of life long ago.

    Ages: 6 - 9: Week 4
     
  • Quilting

    M, W, F - Use the sewing machine to make a patchwork lap quilt.

    T, Th - Learn how to crazy quilt and make a pillow.

    Ages: 6 - 9: Week 4

  • Doll Making

    Make simple dolls using several techniques and take home the projects you make.

    Ages: 6 - 9: Week 5
     
  • Knitting - Parents Welcome!

    Learn the basics of knitting: casting-on, knitting and pearl stiches.

  • Stuffed Animals

    Make your own stuffed animals in the variety of ways.

    Ages: 6 - 9: Week 2

  • Spinning - Parents Welcome!

    Try the ancient art of spinning wool into yarn.  You’ll make your own drop spindle and take home enough fiber to last you well into the winter!

  • Weaving

    Have fun learning about weaving using a variety of materials.  Take home a keychain, placemat, bracelet and more!

  • Pickling

    Try your hand at making bread and butter pickles, dill zucchini, and flavored vinegars.

  • Felting - Parents Welcome!

    Turn wool into felt!

    M, W, F - Make felted jewelry, beads and washcloths

    T, Th - Make felted slippers

  • Colonial Games

    How did children entertain themselves in the time before TV, video games, and modern toys?  Come and fine out!

  • Explorer’s Club

    Prepare for adventure on the Historical Society’s grounds.  Explore.

  • Tie Dye

    Try out differnet patterns and styles of tie dye and get a chance to recycle some of your clothes.

  • Origami

    Try your hand at the folded paper craft and enjoy the unique results.

  • Ink Blots

    Enjoy printing and ink activities: make your own ink, stamps, and write with a quill pen.

  • Kaleidoscopes

    Enjoy making your own kaleidoscopes and binoculars while learning about optical amusements of the 19th century.

  • Soap Suds

    Help with scrubbing and hanging laundry like a wash day from long ago.  Make soaps of all kinds and shapes to take home.

  • Roots, Stems and Leaves

    Learn to identify local plants, make root beer, and handcraft a grapevine wreath to take home and decorate!

     
    Ages 9 - 12: Week 6
  • Macramé

    Learn the ancient art of macramé by making jewelry.  Children will make bracelets and necklaces as they learn this fascinating art.

  • Victorian Party

    Make decorations, toys, and accessories while learning proper etiquette for a Victorian party.

  • Mosaics

    Piece together some unique artwork using tile and other materials.

  • Candle Making

    Make candles of different shapes and sizes while learning how people lighted their lives in earlier times.

  • Candy Craze

    Enjoy making and decorating your own candy!

  • Papermaking

    Learn how to make your own paper using simple materials from around the house.

Please Note:

  • Due to the July 4th holiday, there will be no Friday class on Week 1.  The week’s classes are divided by ‘Monday - Wednesday’ and ‘Tuesday - Thursday.’  There will not be a three day class that week.
  • If your child has any allergies or special needs, please let us know upon registering.
  • Pre-registration and pre-payment are necessary for every class.  Please call 631-265-6768 to register.
