Hamlet of the Month Honoree, Kings Park

Bob Creighton has led an exemplary life of service to his community and country.  Immediately following his high school graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy, served three years and was honorably discharged at the end 1958.  H e then moved to Kings Park and soon met his wife Geraldine to whom he has been happily married to for 57 years!  In 1961 he was appointed to the newly formed Suffolk County Police Department. At that time, in addition to working, he also furthered his education. Over the next six years, Bob earned his Associate’s Degree in Police Science from SUNY Farmingdale, his Bachelor’s Degree  from John Jay College of Criminal Justice, and his Master’s Degree from SUNY Stony Brook. Bob served as a Detective Supervisor for 20 years with the Suffolk County Police Department. He went on to work as Principal Investigator for the NYS
Organized Crime Task Force,  and then in the private sector as Northeastern Security Director for Visa International and as Chief Special Agent for American Express Company. He then worked as Vice President of Parr Development Corporation before heading to the Suffolk County DA’s office  where he worked as a Chief Investigator for four years. Two of those years he also proudly served as Suffolk County Police Commissioner. In 1994 he formed the R.J. Creighton Co., Inc,  a Licensed and Bonded Investigative and Security Services Firm serving the Long Island Business Community. In this capacity, he also served as the sole security Advisor to Suffolk County Regional Off-Track Betting Corporation. In 1994 he returned to public service in his role as Chief Investigator for the Suffolk County DA’s office.  Bob’s focus came back to his home community when he decided to run for a Town of Smithtown Councilman seat. He proudly served as councilman from January 2008 to January 2015. Throughout the years Bob has continued to serve the Long Island Community in a myriad of different roles.  He has been an adjunct professor at New York Institute of Technology, St. John’s University, SUNY Farmingdale, and Suffolk County Community College. He  has  taken on numerous leadership roles through professional affiliations as well.  He is a former founding member  of the Anti-Bias Force, Town of Smithtown ; former chairman Ll Chapter, American Society for Industrial Security (ASIS) ; member of ASIS Standing Committee on Investigations (nationwide), Regional V.P., ASIS;  Past President and Chairman of the Board of National Law Enforcement  Associates (current Law Enforcement Liaison Chairman).  He  is also associated with the FBI National Academy Associates, Honor Legion; Police Department, City of New York, International Association of Chiefs of Police; President, Board of Trustees, Cleary School for the Deaf ; and is currently the Parish of St. Joseph’s, Kings Park  Chairman, COPS Foundation.
