2015 Heritage Ball “350th” Honorees
Smithtown Historical Society Celebrates Commitment to Community
by Honoring Hamlet Leaders
Each October the Smithtown Historical Society hosts a gala to honor distinguished individuals for their significant and ongoing contributions to the Smithtown community. In recognition of Smithtown’s 350th anniversary, this year’s Heritage Ball will acknowledge and award members from the six major hamlets of Smithtown Township. The 2015 Heritage Ball Honorees are Miles Borden of Kings Park, James & Carolyn Borella of Nesconset, The Damianos Family of Smithtown, Noel Gish of Hauppauge, Kenneth and Elizabeth Maher of St. James, and Debbie Virga of Commack. “It is our privilege to present the Sesquarcentennial Award to each of these recipients who have demonstrated a passion in sharing our mission through the civic and volunteer work they do for our community.” remarked Smithtown Historical Society Executive Director Marianne Howard. “Their ongoing commitment and generosity to our community is inspiring. I hope the entire Township will join the Smithtown Historical Society in celebrating their achievements.”
The Heritage Ball will take place on Thursday, October 15th at the Watermill in Smithtown. There will be a cocktail hour beginning at 6:30 p.m. followed at 7:30 p.m. by an awards ceremony, dinner & dancing, and raffles. This sold out event will benefit the Smithtown Historical Society and help to celebrate its 60 years of commitment to the preservation, restoration, and interpretation of Smithtown’s rich heritage for the education and enjoyment of current and future generations.
Since its founding in 1955, the Smithtown Historical Society has strived to serve the community as both a viable and valuable cultural resource and toensure that the history of Smithtown Township and our Long Island heritage is preserved and interpreted for the education and enjoyment of current and future generations.
