2018 Fall Lecture Series

September 18, 2018 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm

|Recurring Event (See all)

An event every week that begins at 7:00pm on Tuesday, repeating until October 9, 2018

Our Fall Lecture Series kicks off with a lecture on the Culper Spy Ring with Mr. Beverly C. Tyler. Relive the story of Long Island’s Setauket-based Culper Spy Ring through the photographs, maps, and documents included in the Three Village Historical Society’s SPIES! Exhibit. (September 18th)

Our second lecture will be on Iceland, with former SHS Intern Gabrielle Houston. She’ll take us over the ocean to the remote but beautiful country of Iceland; Ms Houston spent time there in the summer of 2018 as part of a research expedition for a hiking trail guide book with Global Treks and Adventures. (September 25th)

The third week features “Art Appreciation for Beginners” with Megan Gandolfo. Perpleced by Pollock? Puzzled by Picasso? At this lecture, learn how to interpret and evaluate art beyond your first impressions to open up a world of meanings. Discover simple steps to “learn how to see” works of art as well as basic iconography and historical references. Absolutely no prior knowledge of art or experience necessary! (October 2nd)

Our final lecture will be a History of Hauppauge with Brad Harris. Join our Town Historian and former SHS President as he takes us back in time to learn about the town of Hauppauge and its unique history within the Smithtown Township. (October 9th)

Admission is free and open to the public; light refreshments will be served.
