SUMMER FIELD TRIPS
Spend a Day at the Smithtown Historical Society
Available for Scouts, Schools, and Summer Camps:
Are you looking for exciting ways to keep your campers and scouts engaged this summer? Come to the Smithtown Historical Society and participate in one of our engaging summer programs. Kids will be immersed in the Colonial Period through interacting with costumed educators and performing hands-on historical activities at our twenty-two-acre site and in our historic buildings. After the program, make sure to stop by our farm to meet our friendly animals and enjoy lunch on our beautiful, rustic grounds!
We offer two Colonial-Era field trips for kids up to grade 6: “Farm Life in Early America” and “A Day in the Life of an 18th -Century Innkeeper”. In “Farm Life in Early America”, children learn about Long Island Rural Life in the 18th and 19th centuries through different hands-on activities including spinning, weaving on full-size looms, and using and crafting hand-made toys. Children also visit our farm animals and explore our 19th century barn and outbuildings.
In “A Day in the Life of an 18th Century Innkeeper”, students visit the Epenetus Smith Tavern, a place of significant Revolutionary War activity, and experience what life was like for 18th-century children and Epenetus Smith, a local businessmen and Patriot. Hands-on activities include dipping candles, painting a tavern sign, writing a letter with quill and ink, and drawing a silhouette.
Programs run from 10AM – 12:30 PM with optional time for lunch on our grounds afterwards. (Please note that we are flexible as per schedule and child age.)
Price is $15/child with adult chaperones free.
