Volunteers

We couldn’t survive without our volunteers!  Volunteering at the Smithtown Historical Society is a great way to get involved in your community while making new friends. We have many opportunities for you to volunteer throughout the year – buildings and grounds, landscape and beautification, animal care on the farm, festivals, kids programs, and so much more. Please contact our main office for more information and complete and return the application below if interested.

Current Opportunities

  • Farm Volunteers: Our farm is looking for AM & PM shift volunteers. Specific information can be found on the “FARM VOLUNTEERS (flyer)” posted below. If interested, please submit an application and contact our farm manager Diana at 631-624-3211/savapet2d@aol.com & Mary at 631-697-6298/maryvv@optonline.net. Only available for those 18 and up (unless accompanied/supervised by a parent/guardian). 

 

  • Festivals:  There are many volunteer spots including set-up/clean-up, admissions, helping to monitor children’s crafts/activities at our different festivals throughout the year. (See “Festivals” tab for more specific information about each event.) Contact our office at 631-265-6768 or info@smithtownhistorical.org to learn more. Must be 18 or up to apply.

 

  • Family-Friendly Spooky Woods and Trick O’ Treat: Many volunteers are needed for this brand-new, exciting event, open to the public from October 25, 26, 27, 30, and 31 from 5:30-8:30 PM. Spots include decorators, youth & adult actors, set-up/clean-up, candy distributors, and more! Contact our office at 631-265-6768 or officemanager@smithtownhistorical.org to learn more. Volunteers must be 16 and up. 

 

Internships

The Smithtown Historical Society is offering internship and volunteer opportunities for students who wish to gain experience in curatorial work, collection management, or aiding in administrative duties. Internships are unpaid and are available to both graduate and undergraduate students for college credit. Depending on the length of the internship, it may be possible to incorporate several projects for a more expansive experience.
